Dr. Noorain Lottering

Hospital Superintendent

Dr. Noorain Lottering is a Motswana medical doctor and healthcare executive with over a decade of clinical experience in the Caribbean and Botswana. She holds a medical degree from The University of the West Indies (Mona Campus) and an Executive MBA in Healthcare Management from Girne American University in Cyprus, blending clinical expertise with strategic leadership. Since joining Medlane Day Hospital in 2019, Dr. Lottering has led impactful wellness and community outreach initiatives, with a strong focus on public health and philanthropy. As Hospital Superintendent, she oversees operational excellence, strengthens ties with public and private healthcare networks, and guides the team in delivering patient-centred care. She also continues to consult patients daily, combining leadership with hands-on, compassionate care.

Dr. Chuck Nwaefuna

Senior Medical Doctor

Affectionately known as “Dr. Chuck,” Dr. Nwaefuna is a dedicated family physician trained in Poland, graduating in 2016 before returning to Botswana. He has worked at Bamalete Lutheran Hospital and Scottish Livingstone Hospital, and contributed to national eye and cardiac campaigns. Since joining Medlane in 2019, he has played an active role in our wellness programmes and led our offsite occupational health clinic. With a focus on family medicine, he manages both acute and chronic conditions and is skilled in minor surgical procedures. Dr. Chuck is known for his clinical precision, warm bedside manner, and passion for empowering patients through health education.

Dr. Alemu Tesfaw

Consultant Ophthalmologist – Vitreoretinal Specialist

Dr. Alemu Tesfaw is a highly skilled ophthalmologist and the first retinal surgeon to practise in Botswana, bringing over a decade of focused expertise in medical and surgical retina care. Originally from Ethiopia, he earned his MD from the University of Gondar and specialised in ophthalmology at Addis Ababa University in 2010. He further sub-specialised in vitreoretinal diseases through a prestigious international programme coordinated by the University of Utah and the Telangana Institute of Ophthalmology. With experience in both Ethiopia and Botswana, Dr. Tesfaw is known for his precision, innovation, and dedication to advancing eye care. His research has been featured in leading journals, and he continues to contribute to global ophthalmic education and clinical training.

Dr. Ron Mhizha

Consultant Ophthalmologist – Anterior Eye Specialist

Ron is a specialist in cornea and refractive surgery with extensive experience across Zimbabwe, Botswana, and South Africa. He holds medical degrees from the University of Zimbabwe, a Master of Medicine in Ophthalmology from the University of Cape Town, and is a Fellow of both the College of Surgeons of South Africa (1997) and the College of Surgeons of East, Central and Southern Africa (2020). He is also a Fellow of the Refractive Surgery Alliance and the World College of Refractive Surgery & Visual Sciences. Ron’s credentials include a Certificate in Practice Management (Foundation of Professional Development, South Africa), a Master's in Arts, and he is a graduate of the Northwestern Kellogg Business School's Physician CEO Program.He is the founding Physician and CEO of The Eye Institute, a regional network of eye units offering integrated ophthalmic care; Day Ambulatory Services, a specialised day hospital; Mutare Netlife Hospital and Intellectus Campus, an education centre for accredited ophthalmic courses.

Dr Freddy Mbumba

Consultant Ophthalmologist

Dr. Freddy Mbumba is a highly respected ophthalmologist in Botswana with extensive experience in clinical ophthalmology and public eye health. In addition to his private practice, Dr. Mbumba consults as an ophthalmologist at Medlane Day Hospital, where he forms part of a multidisciplinary team delivering advanced eye care services, including cataracts, glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, quint/strabismus corrections, eye tumours (retinoblastoma) and ptosis corrections. . Previously, he served as Head of the Eye Department at Scottish Livingstone Hospital and has contributed significantly to national cataract blindness campaigns and public eye health initiatives. He is known for his clinical precision, dedication to patient care, and his ongoing advocacy for strengthening ophthalmic services across Botswana.

Dr K Gaebolae

Consultant Ophthalmologist

Dr. K. Gaebolae is a dedicated ophthalmologist with a strong clinical interest in the diagnosis and management of anterior segment diseases, including cataracts and glaucoma and has interest in the diagnosis and management of diabetic retinopathy. He is known for his meticulous approach, professionalism, and patient-focused care. At Medlane Day Hospital, Dr. Gaebolae provides outpatient eye consultations and surgical services, contributing to our comprehensive eye care offerings. His calm demeanour and thorough assessments make him a valued member of our multidisciplinary team.

Mr Jerad Weale

Ophthalmogy Coordinator

Jerad completed his Certified Advanced Ophthalmic Medical Course South Africa in 2010.Jerad went further to train as a Dispensing Optician with ABDO College in Canterbury, Kent, The United Kingdom. He is also a certified Bausch and Lomb Service Applications Specialist from Heidelberg, Germany and has acquired various certifications and training with global leaders such as ALCON, FREY. He is currently pursuing his MBA with University of Chichester in the United Kingdom, and is completing an optometry programme with Bindura University in Zimbabwe. His major responsibilities include training of ophthalmic personnel on advancements in ophthalmic diagnostics and imaging, whilst overseeing daily ophthalmic operations at the day hospital as well as developing and implementing an integrated operational strategy within the group.

Ms Gaogakwe Sebolai

Operating Theatre Manager

Mrs. Sebolai is a seasoned Motswana nurse with over 28 years of experience. She qualified as a General Nurse in 1993, specialising in Operating Theatre Nursing in 2005 and Trauma Care in 2012. She served in the public sector until 2009, including six years as Operating Unit Manager at Princess Marina Hospital. She later held senior roles at Gaborone Private Hospital and was a founding staff member at Sidilega Private Hospital. Now serving as Operating Theatre Manager at Medlane, “Mma Sbe” is known for her precision, leadership, and warm, supportive nature.

Mr Grateful Mpasi

Head of Radiology

Mr. Mpasi is a highly skilled radiographer from Zimbabwe, having earned his Bachelor of Diagnostic Radiography from the National University of Science and Technology in Bulawayo in 2018. He gained clinical experience in Zimbabwe before joining Francistown Academic Hospital in 2020, where he became recognised for his precision, efficiency, and patient-centred approach.His expertise spans a broad range of imaging modalities, including general radiography, ultrasonography, mammography, computed tomography (CT), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Mr. Mpasi has received multiple awards for excellence in radiographic practice and is widely respected for his professionalism and strong rapport with patients.

Ms Rebecca Aabobe

Head of Pharmacy

Mrs. Aabobe is a proud Motswana pharmacist with a Master of Pharmacy from the University of Bradford (2005) and an MSc in Strategic Management (2019). She has held key roles at Gaborone Private Hospital, Bokamoso, and the International Pharmaceutical Alliance, where she oversaw regulatory compliance and supply chain operations. Since 2018, she has served as Senior Pharmacist at Medlane, known for her strong pharmaceutical expertise, commitment to BOMRA standards, and patient-focused approach.
